Whether you want to write prose, plays or poems, Ignite is for you!

If you haven’t written creatively before but always wanted to, or if you haven’t written for some time and want to kick-start your practice, then this low-cost, intensive course is for you.

Come, hang out and learn to write more regularly with more joy in the relaxed atmosphere WLAG is famous for.

With Ignite, you aren’t expected to write for big chunks of time or to share work. You’ll develop your skills and confidence in a small, supportive group, joining us in-person at the Milk Cafe.

You’ll learn how to push through doubt, reduce fear of the blank page, create a regular writing practice and enjoy the process of writing so much more. You’ll become skilled in characterisation, dialogue, creating dynamic settings and other essential writing techniques.

TUTOR

Kirsty Strang-Roy is a Glasgow-based writer and creative practitioner. Her work constellates the world through hands-on and inclusive writing and participatory arts workshops. She's recently undertaken commissions for the Scottish Mental Health Foundation, Southside Wellbeing Festival, University of Strathclyde, Plenty? Festival and The Barn's Third Stage programme for over-55s. She also mentors emerging and under-represented writers for the Arkbound Foundation. Kirsty is an experienced events producer and has worked with poets, authors and artists as well as organising large conferences and festivals. She is currently working on a hybrid prose-poetry novella as well as a literary memoir and a handbook for teaching poetry in outdoor settings. She has a Masters in Children's and Creative writing from the University of Roehampton. She also holds an MPhil in literary and visual culture from the University of Glasgow.
